Monday Mailbag 8 Answered

by

I guess it’s my turn to answer the Monday Mailbag question, hm?

This week’s question is:

While we could all just go out and exercise, it’s a bit more fun if we have things to use. Maybe it’s a machine at the gym, your ipod/mp3 player, your ankle weights you don’t even notice you’re wearing anymore… What is your favourite ‘tool of the trade’? What makes your fitness life a bit easier and/or more fun?

Oh, gosh. I’m a bit embarrassed to admit this one…

When I was still going to the gym, my favourite tool was whatever book I was reading at the time. I like to multitask, so going on the sitting cycle and reading a book worked out great for me. I’m a book reviewer, so having that extra time to get in reading while accomplishing something else was great! I’m not sure I could have gotten all my reading done on time if I didn’t pair those two up.

Like a lot of people, I have an mp3 player for listening to music (and podcasts) when I exercise. I don’t use it all the time, though, because some days I would just rather have the thinking time. The music is great, though, especially if I plan out the assortment of music carefully and get some good rhythms to walk to.

Eventually, I would like to get some ankle weights as well as a stability/exercise ball. We’re also in the process of saving up for an elliptical machine that I saw and fell in love with. (It can easily convert to a stair stepper!)

What about you? What do you like to use?
