Monday Mailbag 50 - Organic and Home Grown

by

You know how it works – MM is my tribute to my love of receiving mail (or is it just my loathing of an empty mailbox?).

Every Monday I will post my question for you to answer on your blog. You then come back here and leave a link to where you’ve posted your answer so we can all get to know each other.

Easy peasy. Wanna play?

This week’s question:

When I lived in the States, I had your typical horrid diet. Stops to McDonalds, greasy food, processed food, a lot of soda and fruit juice and not a lot of water at all. Moving to Australia was a wakeup call, as my then boyfriend now husband cooked only from scratch. The initial wave of my body getting rid of toxins (and making me severely ill) because of the healthy eating prompted me to change my views on food forever.

Now I love veggies and eat a lot of natural food. I try to go organic and I always go free range (things raised on proper farms instead of in factories or in horrid conditions). I feel all the better in mind and body for it.

I’m wondering…

Do you use organic and/or home grown food?

Remember to leave a link to your answer in the comments!

(If you have any question suggestions for MM, I’d be happy to hear them! I don’t promise to use all suggestions, but I do promise to read them. Thanks!)

As far as I can, but I’m afraid in South Africa you’d starve to death if you relied on organics, unless you lived in certain areas. The Southern Suburbs of Cape Town have some farmers markets and organic box schemes, but I haven’t found anything in the Northern Suburbs, where we now live. The supermarkets carry some organic produce, but it’s sporadic and you can’t buy that exclusively. My dream is to grow a lot of my own stuff, but currently I live in a security estate where we’re not allowed to garden.

I totally support the organic culture, but over here it’s still very elitist. I compromise on fruit and vegetables, but I not on animal products - there I only buy free-range and organic.

You get that in a lot of places, which is really unfortunate. All we can really do is try to go it as much as possible.

I dream of owning my own garden, but it’ll have to wait until I get a yard…
