<p>Scenario: Johnny and Mark get into a fistfight after school.</p>
<p>1960 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up mates.<br />
2007 - Police are called, Armed Response Unit arrives and arrests Johnny and Mark. Mobiles with video of fight confiscated as evidence. They are charged with assault, ASBOs are taken out and both are suspended even though Johnny started it. Diversionary conferences and parent meetings conducted. Video shown on 6 Internet sites.</p>
<p>Scenario: Jeffrey won&#8217;t sit still in class, disrupts other students.</p>
<p>1960 - Jeffrey is sent to the principal&#8217;s office and given 6 of the best. Returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.<br />
2007 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. Counselled to death. Becomes a zombie. Tested for ADHD. School gets extra funding because Jeffrey has a disability. Drops out of school.</p>
<p>Scenario: Billy breaks a window in his neighbour&#8217;s car and his Dad gives him the slipper.</p>
<p>1960 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college,and becomes a successful businessman.<br />
2007 - Billy&#8217;s dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. Psychologist tells Billy&#8217;s sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy&#8217;s mum has an affair with the psychologist. Psychologist gets a promotion.</p>
<p>Scenario: Mark, a college student, brings cigarettes to school.</p>
<p>1960 - Mark shares a smoke with the school principal out on the smoking area.<br />
2007 - Police are called and Mark is expelled from School for drug possession. His car is searched for drugs and weapons.</p>
<p>Scenario: Mohammed fails high school English.</p>
<p>1960 - Mohammed retakes his exam, passes and goes to college.<br />
2007 - Mohammed&#8217;s cause is taken up by local human rights group. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that making English a requirement for<br />
Graduation is racist. Civil Liberties Association files class action lawsuit against state school system and his English teacher. English is banned from core curriculum. Mohammed is given his qualification anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.</p>
<p>Scenario: Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers, puts them in a model plane paint bottle and blows up an anthill.</p>
<p>1960 - Ants die.<br />
2007 - MI5 and police are called and Johnny is charged with perpetrating acts of terrorism. Teams investigate parents, siblings are removed from the home, computers are confiscated, and Johnny&#8217;s dad goes on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.</p>
<p>Scenario: Johnny falls during break and scrapes his knee. His teacher, Mary, finds him crying, and gives him a hug to comfort him.</p>
<p>1960 - Johnny soon feels better and goes back to playing.<br />
2007 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces three years in prison. Johnny undergoes five years of therapy. Becomes gay.</p>

<p><strong>Thirteen Reasons I&#8217;m Looking Forward to the Doctor</strong></p>
<p><strong>1. I feel better than ever.</strong> There is nothing like going in for an assessment knowing that you are doing heaps better than you were the last time around.</p>
<p><strong>2. Being told I don&#8217;t have to go on metformin.</strong> Yeah, I know I don&#8217;t have to, but I&#8217;m so looking forward to hearing it; to hearing that I&#8217;ve found something that beats the bloody PCOS weight loss stall.</p>
<p><strong>3. Getting blood tests.</strong> Yeah, blood tests cost and they are a pain in the arse, but I am looking forward to getting them. I want to see how much everything has improved after taking off so many pounds. </p>
<p><strong>4. A trip to inner Melbourne.</strong> That&#8217;s just plain hard to beat. </p>
<p><strong>5. Seeing my dietitian.</strong> She is just an awesome, totally supportive lady. She never makes me feel bad about what I haven&#8217;t done; she just encourages me to improve.</p>
<p><strong>6. Seeing my doctor and dietitian having lost weight.</strong> Yay! I didn&#8217;t think meal replacement would be as successful as it has been. I&#8217;m looking forward to what they have to say.</p>
<p><strong>7. Clearer directions on where to go from here.</strong> I have heaps more weight to lose - I&#8217;m not even halfway to my goal weight yet - but I&#8217;m hoping we can start working on other things like improving my fertility and getting me off The Pill. (Yes, I&#8217;m back on. I had to unless I wanted to face another round of progesterone. No thanks.)</p>
<p><strong>8. Talk about concerns.</strong> As it&#8217;s a check in, it&#8217;s a prime time to talk about any concerns I have. I don&#8217;t have heaps of questions, but I do have some things I&#8217;m eager to talk to them about.</p>
<p><strong>9. The official weigh-in.</strong> I go by my own scales, of course, but it will be nice to see how I am going according to their scales.</p>
<p><strong>10. Free samples?</strong> Hehe. I got a few free meal replacements before, and I&#8217;m not above accepting more.</p>
<p><strong>11. Seeing all the preggy ladies.</strong> Yeah, I know, but they&#8217;re so cute wandering around with their huge bellies. <img src='http://www.finallygettingfit.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><strong>12. Having the dietitian right when I need her.</strong> I&#8217;m moving on to the next &#8216;phase&#8217; of the diet and the timing comes together wonderfully. I can ask her about the foods I&#8217;m thinking about incorporating back into my diet.</p>
<p><strong>13. Just because.</strong> I ran out of reasons. <img src='http://www.finallygettingfit.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

Given that this book is meant for people who want to deal with their feelings phobia, I was convinced that I fell on the ‘feel too much’ side of the spectrum and thus didn’t have anything to learn from this book.</p>
<p>Boy was I wrong.</p>
<p>In this book, Dr. Frederick takes us on a fascinating journey through the evolution of our feelings – starting at birth. Before I knew it, I found myself examining my reactions to things as well as my lifetime habits. Let me tell you – I have discovered the roots of a lot of behaviors.</p>
<p>Behaviors is one of the big reasons I decided to post this review here. As a recovering binge eater, learning about my behavior and thoughts towards food - as well as where it all stems from - has helped me incredibly to get past my issues and fears.</p>
<p>The thing I appreciated most about this book is that Frederick doesn’t preach to you. The feeling is almost like he is just as fascinated as the readers are at all of this, so you feel like you’re talking to a comrade rather than being drilled like a teacher. His conversational and friendly tone always made me feel comfortable.</p>
<p><strong>The Short Version</strong></p>
<p>I highly recommend this book. Even if you think you don’t need this book, you may be surprised at what you can learn from it.</p>

<p>If you had told me at the beginning of this year that this was going to be the year I would see the weight loss I’d always been dreaming of, I would not have believed you. Lo and behold, here I am.</p>
<p>I haven’t been anywhere near perfect over this past week and things are bound to get interesting as my birthday gets closer, but I’m not thinking about that. I’m thinking about forty pounds. Forty pounds gone. </p>
<p>It sounds so incredibly lovely. Gone, gone, gone.</p>
<p>I’m excited about my doctor’s appointment late next week. I’m wondering what their reactions are going to be when I step on the scale. I wonder if I’m going to look that much different to them.</p>
<p>I’ve been thinking about getting a new pretty top just so I can make a bit of a grander entrance, but I might hold off, seeing as I bought a new top not too long ago.</p>
<p>Lovely, lovely times. Now if we could just figure out what’s going on with the blogs&#8230;</p>

<p>As you have probably figured out by now, I put mental health at as high (if not a bit higher) of an importance as physical health. Many of us who struggle with our weight have the seeds of such behaviors planted in our minds - often from quite an early age. </p>
<p>Mental health is something that is a big problem these days (just look at road rage or how many parents can&#8217;t stand up to their spoiled brat children) and yet it is too often overlooked - despite the fact that good mental health can solve so many problems.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m wondering&#8230;</p>

<p>For the first time in at least five years – probably more like six or seven – I am in the 220s. I’m only just stepping in, but I am there.</p>
<p>I’m a bit gobsmacked about the whole thing, to be honest, but I am so glad that my ‘rededication’ to the plan has paid off this week. My paranoid side was trying to convince me that since I had indulged and gained a couple pounds, suddenly the whole thing wasn’t going to work anymore.</p>
<p>Yeah, not very sane, but you know how it goes…</p>
<p>My husband ‘snuck’ into my blog and posted about our walk this past weekend. I feel so awesome about the walk. I think the husband is starting to get nervous because I’m just a few kilos away from equaling him in weight… Of course, he’s a good five inches taller than me so he will still look fitter than me. But hey, maybe it’ll be a motivator for his fitness. Hehe.</p>
<p>I’m not sure I’m going to make my goal, but I am going to give it all I have. I know that even if I walk in at my current weight, it will still qualify as a fantastic loss.</p>
<p>Who would have thought I would ever look forward to a doctor’s appointment? Truth be told, I’m looking forward to impressing my dietician more. Haha. She’s an awesome lady.</p>
<p>I do plan on getting a lot of questions answered at the doctor, but more of that in the future.</p>

<p>This past weekend, my husband and I went on a long walk that we have done a few times since I&#8217;ve lived here. Every time we&#8217;ve done it, I have been exhausted by about halfway through, if that. Now, thirty-six pounds down, it was still a workout, but it was so awesome.</p>
<p>Not only did I power through the whole thing while bitching away to my husband about some things that are frustrating me, I kept up a fast enough pace that my husband was a bit winded! Woohoo!</p>
<p>Walking at a pace that gives my husband a workout has long been a goal of mine. I&#8217;m looking forward to getting even faster.</p>
