Birthdays and Greek Food

by

Mr. JM’s birthday is coming up on Friday and I have decided to give in and just enjoy the day. I want him to have a wonderful experience that doesn’t involve me saying “I don’t think I should have that” every three seconds. I’ve decided the best way to avoid that is to have a lovely night out at the Greek place!

I love Greek food. There is a lot of meat, yes, but I usually go for the seafood. Not only is most (all?) seafood awesomely good for you in many ways, it’s absolutely delicious. The Greek way of preparing seafood (and all their food!) makes me just drool. Greek style is probably the only way I will ever eat cauliflower.

I also am getting him a little mudcake (about 3.5”x3.5”) for us to split, which will probably totally overwhelm whatever health benefits we’ll be getting from the veggies and seafood. That’s okay, though. It’s his birthday!

We’d bother better enjoy it too, because I’ve realised that things always go much easier when the husband and I are both taking the same steps for our health instead of me doing one thing and him doing another. 2009 is going to be a healthier year for us both.

To my wonderful husband: I hope this past year has brought you a lot of happiness. I hope you celebrate your birthday with all the joy you possibly can. In the year to come, may you grow healthier, happier, and even more in love with life than you already are.

Happiest of birthdays, love.

XOXO,

Me

You know, I really believe that our problems come from the fact that we eat as if every day is a feast day. We should eat healthily on a daily basis and then enjoy ONE treat meal on actual feast days. That is not going to make us fat and unhealthy.

Enjoy! I love Greek food too, and they normally use fresh ingredients and good quality oils, so it’s a better choice than most restaurants!

Thankfully I have stopped regarding every day as a feast day and I have stopped my fear of famine days. But yes, I can see that is a problem for many people.
